Your contacts are the audience for campaigns and flows. Clean data means better delivery and fewer failures.
Phone number format
Use the full international number with country code and without "+" or spaces, for example 919876543210 for an Indian mobile. A 10-digit Indian mobile number is also fine in most imports — Rviing adds the 91 country code when it is missing.
Prepare your file
Save your Excel sheet as CSV (or use the import template from the Contacts page). Recommended columns:
| Column | Required | Example |
|---|---|---|
name |
Recommended | Priya Sharma |
phone |
Yes | 919876543210 |
email |
Optional | priya@example.com |
tags |
Optional | vip, mumbai |
| any custom field | Optional | city, birthday, loan_no |
Import steps
- Open Contacts and click Import.
- Upload your CSV file.
- Map columns — tell Rviing which column is the phone, name, email and so on.
- Optionally add a tag to everyone in this file, e.g.
diwali-2026-list. - Start the import. Rviing shows how many contacts were created, updated or skipped, and why.
Existing contacts are matched by phone number, so importing the same person twice updates them instead of creating a duplicate.
Tags and segments
Tags are labels you can filter by when sending a campaign: vip, girvi, wedding, school-a. A contact can have many tags. Flows can add or remove tags automatically based on replies.
Consent and opt-out status
Imported contacts keep their opt-in status. Contacts who have opted out stay opted out even if they appear in a new file — Rviing never re-subscribes someone silently. See STOP / opt-out & compliance.
Exporting
You can export your contacts to CSV at any time — your data is always yours.
