STOP / opt-out & compliance

How STOP is handled, opt-in best practice and protecting your quality rating.

Respecting a customer's choice is the law of good WhatsApp marketing — and it protects your number. Rviing handles opt-outs automatically.

How STOP works in Rviing

  1. A customer replies STOP (or a similar opt-out keyword such as UNSUBSCRIBE), or taps an opt-out quick-reply button like Stop promotions.
  2. Rviing immediately marks the contact as opted out.
  3. Campaigns and flows skip that contact from then on — you cannot accidentally send them marketing templates.
  4. The contact's status is visible on their profile and in your contact list.

Customers can also use the public unsubscribe page to opt out of WhatsApp or email messages.

Contact opt-in statuses

Status Meaning
Opted in The customer agreed to receive messages from you.
Pending Consent not yet confirmed — for example an imported list.
Opted out The customer asked to stop. Marketing is blocked.

Rviing sends a short confirmation reply, and the customer can reply START at any time to subscribe again — that switches them back to opted in automatically. If a customer who opted out contacts you again, you can still reply to them inside the 24-hour window. Only change their status back to opted in yourself when they clearly ask to receive messages again.

Collecting opt-in the right way

  • Ask for permission at billing, on your website or in your store with a clear line such as "Get offers and updates on WhatsApp".
  • Say what you will send and how often.
  • Keep a record of when and where the customer opted in.
  • Never buy contact lists or message people who did not ask to hear from you.

Protecting your quality rating

Meta rates every number green, yellow or red based on how customers react. Lots of blocks and reports lower the rating and can reduce your messaging limit or pause templates.

  • Add "Reply STOP to opt out" or an opt-out button to marketing templates.
  • Segment with tags and send relevant messages, not blasts to everyone.
  • Don't send too often — once or twice a week is plenty for most promotions.
  • Watch opt-out spikes in campaign reports and adjust.

Policies to follow

Using WhatsApp for business means following the WhatsApp Business Messaging Policy, Meta's commerce policy and India's applicable data-protection rules. Rviing's guard rails help, but you remain responsible for the content you send and for having your customers' consent.
